Finnan to miss Prague qualifier

Republic of Ireland defender Steve Finnan has been ruled out of the Euro 2008 qualifier against the Czech Republic in Prague on Wednesday.

The Liverpool full-back, who missed the 2-2 draw with Slovakia on Saturday, has failed to recover from a knee injury.

Wolves' midfielder Darren Potter will also miss the game through injury and Stephen Ireland has withdrawn after the death of his grandmother.

Kevin Doyle and Richard Dunne face fitness tests ahead of the game.

The pair picked up knocks in the Group D game in Bratislava at the weekend.

Ireland flew back to the Republic on Sunday after learning of the death of his grandmother shortly after the match, in which he scored.

"It is unfortunate that Steve and Darren have withdrawn due to injury but we still have 20 players in the squad which will still give us plenty of options for Wednesday's game in Prague," said Republic boss Steve Staunton.
