Chris Waddle on England's U21s

By Chris Waddle
BBC Five Live Sports Extra summariser

England's goalless draw against the Czech Republic wasn't a great spectacle and I was expecting a lot more.

But you have to give the benefit to the players as when the final whistle went you could see how much energy the conditions had sapped out of them.

It was very humid and very hot in Arnhem and that doesn't suit the way England play.

"Stuart Pearce now has to look at how he can get more from his squad"
Stuart Pearce Physically they worked well, but they lacked ideas and when they did get in positions to deliver there was only one in the box and the final ball was very poor.

And if someone said you can have a penalty with a few minutes left, well, you can't ask for anything better.

I thought maybe David Nugent should have taken it, but Leroy Lita did, he wanted it and it was just one of those things.

Stuart Pearce will be disappointed about that miss but now he has to look at how he can get more from his squad.

The Czech team was disciplined and you could see how much they respected England.

They opted for a counter-attacking game, they played it very well and created the best chances and it was a fair result.

For England the balance wasn't right.

606: DEBATE

Stuart maybe needs to go two up front or play counter-attacking football himself as the system just didn't work.

That could mean looking at Matt Derbyshire and getting more men in the box.

There is room for improvement.
