Uefa clarifies McClaren situation

steve mcclaren Uefa is not going to punish England boss Steve McClaren for not attending a news conference on Tuesday ahead of the game with Andorra on Wednesday.

Earlier reports suggested McClaren may face a fine as Uefa's rules state that a coach must give a news conference on the eve of a Euro 2008 qualifier.

But McClaren gave interviews on Monday and this was deemed sufficient.

"There is no reason to question the accessibility given to the media," said a Uefa spokesman.

England's coach has been subjected to savage media criticism after a run of poor results in the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign.

Captain John Terry and his deputy Steven Gerrard gave the news conference on Tuesday and Uefa insist there was no problem with the arrangements.

"I can confirm that Uefa is satisfied with the media activities scheduled by the English FA, prior to their qualifier on Wednesday against Andorra.

"We understand that the England manager was made widely available to the media yesterday and that at today's press conference both the captain and vice-captain were made available."
