Colchester advanced to round two of the FA Cup with a comfortable victory over Blue Square South side Bromley.
Simon Hackney opened the scoring on 32 minutes, meeting John White's cross on the half-volley from edge of the box.
Three minutes later, Kayode Odejayi gathered in the Bromley half, beat two defenders and coolly slotted home.
Gareth A Williams missed a chance for Bromley before Clive Platt headed in a David Fox corner and substitute Steven Gillespie nodded home Fox's cross.
Bromley boss Mark Goldberg told BBC London 94.9:
"It's fair to say Aidy [Boothroyd] did a job on us. We started to get ourselves into the game and once we left too much room on the left for the first goal it hit us hard.
"It took us a wile to steady ourselves but once they had the second I couldn't wait for half time."
Colchester United manager Aidy Boothroyd told BBC Essex:
"It was a good result for us, Bromley have lost one in 14, so they're a strong side. We had done our homework and knew they would be a difficult game.
"I thought we were professional in all that we did, and the lads who came in for us were excellent and 4-0 is a little bit flattering to us."
