Harrogate lucky to win - manager

Harrogate Town squeezed through to the FA Cup third qualifying round with a penalty shoot-out win over Workington at the CNG Stadium.

There were no goals from 210 minutes of football and then Town's Darren Dunning missed the first penalty.

But keeper Jim Provett then saved two spot kicks to put his side through 5-4 and earn a trip to Eastwood.

Manager Neil Aspin told BBC Radio York: "If you win any tie on penalties you count yourself fortunate."

He added: "We've had a few penalty shoot-outs here and never been winners [they lost one to Fleetwood in the Setanta Shield three weeks ago], so it was nice to get a bit of luck."

"We've got to be better than we've been in the last two games if we're going to get anything (at Stafford)"

Provett also made an outstanding save at the end of the 90 minutes to keep Aspin's side in the competition.

"It's always nice for your goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet," Aspin added.

"Our defence kept us in the tie, over the two games we've been very poor as an attacking force."

On Saturday, Harrogate Town face Stafford and Aspin said: "They've won their last four games in a row - we've got to be better than we've been in the last two games if we're going to get anything there.

"The two performances that we've put in against Workington haven't been good enough and we're going to have to be better in the league if we want to stay in the position we're in."
