No pre-match warning for Neville

Gary Neville Referees' chief Keith Hackett insists match official Howard Webb will not have to issue a warning to Gary Neville before Saturday's FA Cup tie.

Neville, 30, will captain Manchester United at Liverpool in the fifth round.

His celebrations in front of Liverpool fans after United's Premiership winner in January led to a charge of improper conduct from the Football Association.

However, Hackett said: "I do not want any referee to go into a game making pre-judgements on individuals."

Hackett, who is head of the Professional Game Match Officials Board, says referee Webb will have to trust all the players to think before they act.

And the former referee added: "Everyone starts on a level playing field.

"We realise that we actually rely on the players to be self-disciplined.

"I have no doubt somebody has had a quiet word in Gary Neville's ear and that will be sufficient."

Neville has denied the FA charge and his hearing will be heard after the FA Cup encounter at Anfield.
