Real chief wants Beckham to stay
Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon is desperate for David Beckham to stay at the Bernabeu.
The 31-year-old, whose current deal expires next year, has been in talks over a two-year extension but nothing has been signed.
"He is a genius on and off the pitch and he is a wonderful person in every sense," Calderon told Real's website.
"He is one of the most charitable and lovely people I've met. I'd love him to stay because he's a great player."
If Beckham fails to agree a new deal by January, he would be free to negotiate with other clubs.
But although the former England captain has started only two La Liga games this season, Calderon insists manager Fabio Capello has not lost confidence in the midfielder.
"Capello has confidence in him," he said.
"He has been a starter in some games and now he is enjoying some minutes but he cannot play in every game."
