Terim set to quit as Turkey coach

Turkey coach Fatih Terim

Turkey coach Fatih Terim says he will probably resign after they lost in the semi-finals of Euro 2008 to Germany.

Turkey lost a classic encounter 3-2 and Terim is unlikely to now extend his three-year spell in charge.

"Most probably after speaking to the federation and players I will choose to say this is what I have done," he said.

"I had declared earlier I would not be working in Turkey. I am a man who keeps my promises. So I will most probably go back to a European country."

Turkey produced a magnificent display in Basel and were desperately unlucky not to even take the Germans to extra time.

They were hamstrung by injuries and suspensions going into the game but were the better of the two teams, only to lose to Philipp Lahm's last-minute winner.

Terim added: "I congratulate Germany for their win and wish them success for the final but I am proud of my players.

"We were able to show the world what a good team we are.

"Sometimes when we win you could ask yourself if it was fair too. This was the result and we have to accept it. I think we were the better side.

"I never used suspended or injured players as an excuse. I said I'd have 11 players out there and I had 11 players."

Meanwhile, Colin Kazim-Richards has accused Germany of being unsporting after their late winner at the St Jakob Park stadium.

Lahm's winner came after the English-born striker had gone down injured.

Kazim believes the Germans should have put the ball out of play, insisting he was genuinely injured.

"I personally think they will be a little bit upset with the goal that won the game for them," he said.

"This whole tournament has been based around fair play and I think you saw that we did it (put the ball out) a couple of times, we've done it throughout the tournament.

"Although I can't say that if I was in the same position I would have done the same thing, but it would have needed to be more like a screamer - he (Lahm) had to make a pass before scoring, so it's a bit upsetting.

"I'm not the sort of guy to stay down if it's not something serious, I got subbed off and would've played on if I was all right."
