Fans to protest against Newcastle

Being the man who brought 'The Messiah' back to Newcastle proved an enormous boost to owner Mike Ashley's popularity in January.

But being the man who could not prevent Kevin Keegan walking out on the Toon only eight months later has left Ashley as the number one target on Tyneside.

Despite surprise talks between Ashley and Keegan on Friday, a series of demonstrations are planned by fans angry at Keegan's exit.

They plan to protest before, during and after the game at home to Hull on Saturday.

Lawrenson, a former colleague of Keegan's at Newcastle, said: "The best thing the supporters can do is turn up, support the team and hopefully cheer them onto victory.

"But if they want to have a bash at the board while they are there than go on and do it."

Ashley is yet to decide whether he will attend the game, though if he does, it is unlikely he will be sitting in amongst his fellow supporters at St James' Park.
