Charlton 3-1 Tottenham

Two goals from Kevin Lisbie helped Charlton to a comfortable victory over lacklustre Spurs at The Valley.

The young striker scored his third and fourth goals of the season after Graham Stuart had opened the scoring in the fourth minute.

In-form Tottenham were looking for an away victory that would have taken them to second spot in the Premiership.

But Charlton had not read the script the visitors had brought with them on their trip south of the Thames.

And they claimed another impressive win in a London derby - following similar successes over Arsenal and Chelsea.

Stuart took advantage of a defensive mistake from Dean Richards when he latched onto Jason Euell's cross to slot into an empty net.

Spurs hardly had time to regroup before Lisbie doubled Charlton's lead on 18 minutes.

The home side were in the ascendancy against Glenn Hoddle's side, who were missing striker Les Ferdinand through injury.

Defender Goran Bunjevcevic was pushed into an unaccustomed holding role in midfield, replacing the suspended Steffen Freund.

But the Yugoslav was largely ineffective, forcing Hoddle to bring on Steffen Iversen at half-time to add some much-needed firepower.

Although Spurs had a Gus Poyet goal disallowed for off-side in the second half, they failed to penetrate a well-marshalled Addicks defence led by Mark Fish and Jonathan Fortune.

And the game was effectively over when Lisbie, who scored the winner in Charlton's 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, claimed his second in the 78th minute.

Poyet managed to score a consolation goal for Spurs with a spectacular 25-yard volley with five minutes left.

But it came too late as Spurs missed their opportunity to move onto the shoulders of Premiership leaders Liverpool.
