Wrexham secured a valuable away point that lifts them off the foot of League Two on goal difference.
Rochdale dominated possession but never looked likely to break the deadlock until Adam Le Fondre hit the woodwork midway through the second period.
Wrexham goalkeeper Anthony Williams then denied Callum Higginbotham and Glenn Murray late on.
Wrexham's best effort came from a 25-yard drive from Matty Done which goalkeeper Sam Russell pushed wide.
