The Owls lie just two places off the bottom of the table, as they struggle to come to terms with life in the First Division.
Wednesday have only taken one point from their last three outings, and have failed to score in two home defeats to Wimbledon and Nottingham Forest.
Although the situation is desperate for the Owls, Jewell has been over the course before with Bradford City.
Jewell said: "We are a team with no confidence at the moment. We have got to get it back and a win would go some way towards that.
"The players have to stand up and be counted but it is difficult when things aren't going your way."
Current crisis
Meanwhile Nottingham Forest boss David Platt said he believes that Jewell has what it takes to lead Sheffield Wednesday out of their current crisis.
Platts comments follow Forest's 1-0 victory at Hillsborough, the Owls second home defeat in five days.
But Platt insisted: "Paul is a winner and he will be disappointed but he will pick himself up and I expect to see him bounce back.
"Maybe he will get that bit of luck that he deserves."
