Reading's winless home run stretched to 17 games after a 1-1 draw with fellow Championship strugglers Ipswich Town.
The visitors took an early lead when striker Jonathan Stead's scuffed shot beat keeper Adam Federici.
Reading's Brian Howard then crashed a shot against the bar but just after the break they were level when Simon Church found the net from close range.
Shane Long then saw a header hacked off the line by an Ipswich defender while Church hit the bar late on.
Reading manager Brendan Rodgers:
"It was a game we came into with big confidence but gave ourselves a mountain to climb by giving away a goal at the beginning. It was a stupid goal.
"I thought we should have had a penalty when Shane Long was brought down near the end. It's clear there was contact when you see the TV replay. You usually get those at home.
"We had some really good moments in the first half but failed to capitalise. It's a frustrating end to a couple of good weeks."
Ipswich boss Roy Keane:
"I thought it was a fair result.
"They had more of the possession and put us under pressure. They are a big, strong side - which surprised me.
"I thought our last two performances were perhaps the poorest for a month. But we got results - and I always say that if you get results the table sorts itself out.
"Perhaps we scored too early - because as soon as we did, we thought we could sit back. But you can't do that."
