Barnsley 1-2 Sheff Utd

James Beattie scored twice as Sheffield United beat Barnsley in a bad-tempered South Yorkshire derby that saw both teams reduced to ten men.

Beattie opened the scoring for the visitors after 20 minutes with a tap-in from a Danny Webber cross.

United's Ugo Ehiogu and Barnsley's Anderson De Silva were shown straight red cards for violent conduct.

Beattie scored from the penalty spot after Rob Kozluk had handled and then Barnsley's Kayode Odejayi headed in.

Barnsley manager Simon Davey:
"That's what happens when you get Premier League referees coming down into the Championship. It's all about them.

"I'm disappointed with the result, but the way the lads performed today, I thought they were magnificent throughout the 90 minutes.

"But for me, how can a linesman give penalty when he's standing behind me and the referee's 15 yards away. I got a little upset over that and rightly so."

Sheff Utd manager Kevin Blackwell:
"A lot of tackles went in and to be fair to the ref if he had picked everyone we'd have had nobody left on the pitch, that's for sure.

"Our first goal was very well worked. Terrific skill from (Kyle) Naughton and (Danny) Webber down the left.

"Webber's delivered a peach of a ball and Beatts has got on the end of it. Obviously then the penalty came along and it was nailed on. We called it straight away."
