Norwich 1-1 Birmingham

Darel Russell's neat finish early in the second half gave Norwich a point against early pacesetters Birmingham.

Sebastian Larsson scored with a header from a free-kick to give the Blues the lead against the run of play.

Russell had a shot tipped round the post by Birmingham goalkeeper Maik Taylor and Norwich striker Arturo Lupoli saw an effort go narrowly wide.

But straight after the break Russell levelled with a shot which curled in after a ball from Lupoli.

Norwich manager Glenn Roeder told BBC Radio Norfolk:

"We showed that when we play like that, we're better than the team that came to us today as the league leaders.

"We never gave them a moment's rest, we were always at them, getting the ball off them quickly, and I thought we passed the ball really really well.

"It just shows the fine line between a team at the top of the table and a team, like us, who went into the game looking for our first win."

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish:

"It was ludicrous, criminal, the way we conceded at the start of the second half.

"We told the players that they would need to be quick out of the blocks because Norwich would come at us again and what happened was really poor for a club of our aspirations.

"But overall I'll take a point even though we came here looking for all three."
