Colchester 1-3 Hull

Fraizer Campbell

Hull City maintained their promotion push by beating 10-man Colchester.

U's defender Phil Ifil was shown a straight red card on 16 minutes for a trip on Hull striker Fraizer Campbell.

And Campbell took advantage of a fumble by U's goalkeeper Dean Gerken to put the Tigers ahead before meeting Henrik Pedersen's cross to make it 2-0.

Kevin Lisbie replied for the home side with a sweet finish from the edge of the area but Caleb Folan ran clear late on to seal victory for Hull.

  • Colchester boss Geraint Williams on Phil Ifil's dismissal:
"It is difficult at any time but to have a man sent off that early makes it very, very difficult.

"From where I was, it looked like they ran across each other and it was an accidental trip.

"But I don't really want to comment on it until I see it again, because I'm sick of talking about referees."

  • Hull boss Phil Brown on the red card:
"I didn't think there was any intent on getting the ball.

"It was malicious, and it could have caused Frazier serious damage, so I think that the referee has done his job, no matter what anyone says.

"I thought we were fantastic as Layer Road is a difficult place to come."
