Wolves 1-0 Colchester
Stephen Elliott's header gave Wolves a hard-fought victory over Colchester.
The U's started well and Wolves goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey saved from Kevin Lisbie and Mark Yeates before a Johnnie Jackson free-kick hit the post.
Wolves slowly came into the game but it was still against the run of play when Elliott headed home the rebound after Freddie Eastwood's header was saved.
Colchester could not find a response to going behind, while Wolves' only other effort was a tame Eastwood shot.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy:
"We've played great at times this season and got nothing. Tonight we played lousy and won. So am I happy? Yes!
"We got away with murder but let's give Colchester some credit. They never let us get a tempo going and had some players that caused us problems.
"But we won the game, Stephen Elliott scored and we kept a clean sheet."
Colchester boss Geraint Williams:
"The players tonight were magnificent. At the start we hit the post; at the end we hit the post - and in between we were unfortunate to concede.
"We're disappointed with the result but we are very pleased with the performance and the application.
"We are still scoring and being positive - but we have just got to tighten up a bit."
