Hull and Charlton charged by FA

Hull City and Charlton Athletic The Football Association has charged Hull and Charlton following the mass brawl which marred the Addicks' 2-1 victory at the KC Stadium on Tuesday.

City skipper Ian Ashbee and Addicks winger Lloyd Sam were sent off before half-time following an ugly bust-up.

Players, substitutes and coaches from both sides then got involved.

Both clubs have been charged with failing to ensure players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and refrained from provocative behaviour.

In a separate development, Sam lost his appeal to the FA's disciplinary committee for wrongful dismissal.

Hull boss Phil Brown may also have landed himself in hot water after claiming referee Anthony Taylor allowed himself to be talked into dismissing Ashbee by Charlton's players.

He said: "He (Taylor) was taking the name of Ashbee for a yellow card and was approached by two Charlton players and then changed his mind to a red card.

"It was handbags. Making a fuss of a one-on-one incident is farcical."

Pardew denied that he had made the situation worse by joining the melee, saying: "I went on to the pitch just to get in between (Hull's) Dean Windass and (Charlton's) Jon Fortune because I could see them squaring up."
