Plymouth 3-2 Coventry

Barry Hayles inspired Plymouth to a victory that fans had to wait an extra 15 minutes for after a floodlight failure delayed the kick off.

Comical defending from Coventry allowed Hayles to set up Kevin Gallen to slot home the opener on 18 minutes.

Chris Birchall tapped in an equaliser, but Akos Buzsaky scored with a low drive after running free unchallenged.

Hayles then curled a superb effort into the top corner before Michael Mifsud headed a goal back for the Sky Blues.

  • Plymouth boss Ian Holloway on goalscorer Barry Hayles:
"Barry's a born winner. If it's tiddlywinks, he wants to win and I think he is showing that. I don't know what I would do without him.

"Barry's finish was top drawer, class. I am delighted with the quality I have got out there on the pitch.

"It was not the best of conditions, but I thought my lads were superb."

  • Coventry caretaker boss Adrian Heath:
"I couldn't ask any more from the players. It was just sloppy goals and individual errors which cost us again - as they have been doing.

"It's not always stopping the last shot but stopping the opposition from getting into those positions.

"A lot of the players out there showed the desire to win. It is dispiriting but we need to pick ourselves up."
