Record crowd marks Athletic win

Brian France

Scarborough Athletic came from behind for a 3-2 extra time victory over Sunderland Nissan in their FA Vase second round tie at Queensgate.

A club record crowd of 674 saw Craig Hogg score a brilliant winner in the first half of extra time.

Hogg's winner was rivalled by Nissan's second, Richard Hodgson lobbing the Athletic keeper from 50 yards.

Athletic manager Brian France told BBC Radio York: "There were some fantastic goals scored today."

Rich Medcalf scored the other two Athletic goals, with Neil Tarrant hitting the target for Nissan.

The reward for the NCEL Division One side is a home tie against Lincolnshire team Blackstones.

"Our lads will have learned a lot from today," added France, "we stayed the stronger and it was a very good test for us.

"The fans have been fantastic and they say when we get back to Scarborough [Athletic currently play home games in Bridlington] there are more followers to come."

Athletic are unbeaten in 13 league games and France added: "If you keep the run going it's a good sequence and it breeds confidence.

"You can't just switch it on for the league so it's important that you win all your games.

"If they keep playing like that, we'll get something on the table this year."
