Dover defeat angers Hessenthaler

Andy Hessenthaler

Dover boss Andy Hessenthaler has criticised his side after they lost their re-arranged FA Trophy tie with Cambridge City 3-2 at Crabble.

The Ryman Premier leaders had led 2-0 when Saturday's game was abandoned but found themselves 2-0 down after five minutes on Tuesday.

Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent: "We got what we deserved."

Meanwhile Dartford are through to the third qualifying round after a 4-2 win in their replay at Oxford City.

Despite falling behind to an early goal, the Darts cruised through their replay at Court Place Farm and will now face St Albans City.

Cody McDonald scored twice to take his tally to seven goals from four games while Steve Butterworth and Lee Noble got one each.

"We were poor at the start, they were better than us because they were hungrier than us"

Having let a 3-1 lead slip in Saturday's game, which ended in a 3-3 draw, manager Tony Burman told BBC Radio Kent he was delighted and relieved.

"I'm very pleased, we made hard work of the tie but at the second attempt we've won the game and convincingly won it.

"We've done it the difficult way, winning away from home, but when we were 3-1 up we controlled the game this time and I think it was a very good performance.

Meanwhile, Dover have now been knocked out of both the FA Trophy and the FA Cup.

And Hessenthaler added: "You can't start games like that, we were poor at the start, they were better than us because they were hungrier than us at the start.

"I think we turned up after being 2-0 up on Saturday and a few of them felt we'd go on to win the game quite comfortably, a bit of complacency was there as far as I'm concerned."
