A goalkeeping howler by experienced Wrexham goalkeeper Gavin Ward gifted Burton Albion victory at the Racecourse in the Blue Square Premier.
The 38-year-old stopper failed to deal with Carl Tremarco's back-pass as Shaun Harrad capitalised to condemn Wrexham to their first home defeat this term.
Wrexham hit the woodwork twice but Brian Little's team have now failed to seal back-to-back wins for 18 months.
Simon Brown hit the bar before a Steve Evans header came back off the post.
Wrexham boss Brian Little:
"It was self-inflicted and I'm disappointed to have lost because we should not have - it was terrible mistake on our part. Gavin should have kicked it and he knows that.
"It shows you that against the sides I consider to be the among the best in this division, that if you give them a goal head-start then they will keep the ball, frustrate us and hold on - which Burton did.
"We didn't press them well enough but I think we should have scored because we missed some good chances. We haven't played great but haven't done a lot wrong but the goal helped them."
