Milan master Moscow

AC Milan 1-0 Lokomotiv Moscow

AC Milan maintained their stranglehold on Group C with a narrow 1-0 win over Lokomotiv Moscow.

Danish international Jon Dahl Tomasson put the Italian side ahead after 62 minutes.

The striker pounced when Lokomotiv goalkeeper Sergei Ovchinnikov parried a shot by Filippo Inzaghi, stroking home the rebound.

The first half was largely unimpressive and provoked whistles from the home crowd.

But Milan upped the pace in the second half, creating several good opportunities.

Brazilian Serginho, returning from injury, hit the crossbar with a powerful drive in the 74th minute.

He then turned provider for Inzaghi but the Italian striker failed to take advantage.

Lokomotiv were undoubtedly feeling the effects of a two-month winter break in the Russian season.

And defeat saw them slip into last place in Group C.

But victory for Milan capped a good night for skipper Paolo Maldini, who equalled an Italian record by playing his 117th match in European competitions
