Cisse leads the world
Aliou Cisse crowned his fantastic year on the pitch by being picked - and banging in a goal - for a World XI.
The Senegalese star scored for the world team that played Real Madrid in a game to mark the centenary of the Spanish club.
Cisse scored within three minutes of coming on as a second half sub, lifting the ball over the Real Madrid goalkeeper Cesar.
The game finished three goals apiece, after the World XI had raced out to a three goal advantage.
Cisse captained Senegal to the final of the African Nations' Cup, and throughout a World Cup campaign that saw the Lions beat former colonial power France on the way to the quarterfinals.
The dreadlocked star then joined Birmingham City from Paris Saint Germain, and made an instant impact in the English side's midfield.
Being selected for the World team is a fitting recompense for Cisse's individual achievements in a year in which he also suffered tragedy, losing 12 members of his family in a ferry disaster.
Two other Africans also represented the World in the gala game.
Cameroonian attacker Samuel Eto'o, and Moroccan defender Nourredine Naybet were both second half substitutes.
