Cameroon take Group 1 lead

Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o

Cameroon took an early lead in Group 1 of the 2010 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Saturday with a 2-0 win at home over Cape Verde.

Captain Rigobert Song got the first goal for the Indomitable Lions after just nine minutes of the game.

Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o was on target from the penalty spot for the second goal 11 minutes after half-time.

In the other Group 1 game Mauritius held hosts Tanzania to a 1-1 draw in Dar es Salaam.

The visitors took the lead in the 39th minute through Westley Marquette, who was then sent off in the 75th minute.

The Taifa Stars had to wait until the 70th minute before finding an equaliser from Danny Mrwanda.

Tanzania's next qualifier is away to Cape Verde while Mauritius play host to the Nations Cup runners-up Cameroon on the weekend of 7-8 June.
