Zim clubs raise money for flights

Zimbabwe $10m note

Zimbabwe's Dynamos have raised the money they need to travel to their Champions League tie with title holders Etoile du Sahel in Tunisia.

The Harare side had said it could not afford the cost of travel, following changes to the country's currency laws.

The price of the trip ($US 50,000) rose from 300 billion Zimbabwe dollars to 10 trillion after the change.

But they, and Highlanders of Bulawayo, who travel to Sudan for a Confederation Cup match, have now found the money.

The clubs had asked the government for help in paying the bill, but it is not clear where the cash has been found.

Dynamos will now fly on Thursday evening, but the delay to the trip means they will have little time to prepare for their game.

Etoile celebrate in Cairo They must travel to Tunisia via Johannesburg and Cairo and will arrive only on Friday evening, less than 24 hours before kick-off.

Nonetheless they remain confident of being able to pull off an upset, with a shock 1-0 win from the first leg in the bank.

"Once the news filtered through to the players camp that the currency had been found and the trip was back on, morale reached sky-high," ZBC football commentator Charles Mabika said.

"Everybody amongst the players believes that Dynamos can proceed to the mini-league phase."

Highlanders will also fly out on Thursday evening, for their second-leg match against El Merreikh.

They must overcome a 2-0 deficit from the first match.
