Belenenses lose Meyong appeal

Belenenses have lost their appeal against a six-point deduction for fielding Cameroon's Albert Meyong in the Portuguese league.

The Portugal Football Federation confirmed the punishment against the club for giving Meyong his debut against Naval in January despite the fact that he had played for two Spanish clubs earlier in the season.

Fifa rules state that a player can only turn out for two clubs in the same season.

Meyong previously appeared for Levante and Albacete.

The league took away the three points from Belenenses' 2-1 win against Naval, in which Meyong scored a penalty, and also punished it with a further three-point deduction.

Meyong was fined US$1,000.

Belenenses chairman Miguel Ferreira had claimed that league authorities were to blame because they granted Meyong a permit to play in Portugal.
