Etoile beat Sfaxien in Super Cup

Etoile du Sahel striker, Amine Chermiti Champions League holders Etoile du Sahel beat CS Sfaxien 2-1 on Saturday in an all-Tunisian African Super Cup.

Amine Chermiti scored in the fifth minute, but was red-carded for a second bookable offence with two minutes remaining.

Agyemang Opoko equalised for Sfaxien on 27 minutes, but Radhouane Felhi put Etoile ahead again four minutes after half-time.

The victory gave Etoile their eighth African title, with only Egyptian clubs Al Ahly and Zamalek having won more continental trophies.

Al Ahly have won 12 African titles, while Zamalek have nine.

Chermiti had been voted Tunisia's footballer of the year on Friday, and the 20-year-old had a good game, after a disappointing time at the Africa Cup of Nations.

He gave Etoile the lead at the Rades Stadium, on the outskirts of Tunis, by firing a loose ball in from inside the penalty area.

Ghana-born Opoku impressed, and brought Etoile level 22 minutes later, and he came close to grabbing a late equaliser.

But the game was a dull encounter, marred by poor behaviour from both sets of players.

The annual Super Cup brings together the Champions League and Confederation Cup title holders.

It is a second win from four Super Cup appearances for Etoile, who beat Raja Casablanca in Morocco 10 years ago before losses to Enyimba of Nigeria and Egyptians Al Ahly.
