Shock wins in Group Ten

Ethiopian fans

Namibia and Ethiopia both grabbed surprise 1-0 wins in Group Ten of the 2008 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

On Saturday in Windhoek Namibia edged past Libya 1-0 thanks to an early goal from the Hamburg player Collin Benjamin.

Libya were unlucky not to find an equaliser and hit the Namibian woodwork three times including in the dying seconds of the match.

It was the same score on Friday as Ethiopia threw the group wide open as they beat table-toppers DR Congo in Addis Ababa.

Saladine Said settled the contest with the only goal of the game after 30 minutes.

He profited from a blunder by reserve keeper Alain Kizamba, who had come into the game after just seven minutes when Robert Kidiabe was injured, to settle the game.

Congolese preparations for the game were far from perfect with Belgian coach Henri Depireux complaining he has not been paid his whole salary by the federation.

Compounding the Leopards' problems was the fact that national captain Lomana LuaLua missed the game because of travel complications.

Other England-based players, such as Leroy Lita and Shabani Nonda, were also absent for DR Congo's first defeat in the group.

The results mean that after four games the DR Congo remain top with seven points but both Namibia and Ethiopia are now just one point behind while Libya drop to the bottom of the table with four points.

The next games are in two weeks time with Libya hosting Ethiopia and the DR Congo travelling to play Namibia.
