AS Aviacao get Portuguese coach
Portuguese Manuel Fernandes has been appointed as coach of the Angolan side AS Aviacao (ASA).
Fernandes signed a three-year contract to replace his compatriot Bernardinho Pedroto who left the club last week.
Fernandes becomes the fourth foreign coach for ASA after his compatriots Pedroto and Carlos Alhinho as well as Brazilian Djalma Calvacante.
The former Sporting Lisbon player faces the enormous challenge of matching the impressive record of eight trophies won by his predecessors.
Under Pedroto, ASA won three consecutive league titles, four Super Cups and FA Cup.
The side also reached the group phase of the African Champions League in 2003.
But they finished fifth in the Angolan championship last season, 20 points behind winners Primeiro Agosto.
