Egypt 4-1 Burundi

Egypt Egypt coasted to victory in Cairo against a weak Burundi side in the opening round of matches in Group Two of qualifying for the African Nations Cup.

The Pharaohs were 3-0 up by half time, thanks to goals from Mohamed Zidan, Hosni Abd-Rabou and Mohamed Abou-Treika.

Zidan netted after just five minutes after linking up with Ahmed Hassan to score his first goal for the national side.

And Ismaili midfielder Abd-Rabou doubled the lead after 29 minutes, when a deflection meant his free kick was diverted and flew into the net.

Ten minutes later, Egypt were in full control as Abou-Treika got on the end of a cross from Ahmed Fathi and nipped past the goalkeeper to make it 3-0.

And only seven minutes after the restart, captain Hassan completed the rout with a trademark penalty.

But Burundi got a consolation with a penalty of their own, after Strasbourg left-back Ahmed Abou-Mosallam tripped Soliman, who converted the penalty himself.

Black armbands were worn by Egypt's players in remembrance of left-back Mohamed Abdul-Wahab, who died of a heart defect during training on Thursday.
