Equatorial Guinea gets Cup bye

Equatorial Guinea have been handed a lucky ticket to reach their first major continental finals.

The Guineans were scheduled to play Nigeria this weekend in the last round of knock-out qualifiers for the Women's African Cup of Nations.

Nigeria has been designated as hosts by the Confederation of African Football, Caf, which automatically means that both sides qualify for the tournament.

Nigeria was chosen after Gabon withdrew as hosts earlier this year.

The Nations Cup finals which takes place in September, will be Nigeria's third turn as hosts.

Equatorial Guinea, who are short listed with Gabon as joint bidders to host the 2010 African Cup of Nations, have never previously qualified for a continental finals.
