Morocco have beaten Algeria 2-1 in Algiers in their decisive Group C World Cup qualifier against Algeria.
The result means Morocco are now Group C leaders with 12 points followed by Senegal, who play Egypt in Cairo on Sunday.
The Desert Warriors of Algeria are now completely out of the reckoning for any qualification for the 2002 World Cup.
Morocco's winning goal came in the 48th minute through defender Gharib Amzine who took a shot from a narrow angle from a distance.
The Strasbourg defender was aiming for a cross but the ball dropped inside the Algerian goal, beating goalkeeper Hichem Mezair, who was off the goal-line.
'French' Stars dimmed
Algeria opened the scoring in the 9th minute through Abdelhafid Tasfaout but Morocco equalised less than ten minutes later through Rachid Benmahmoud.
Algeria came close again in the 40th minute as a throw-in midway inside the Moroccan half led to a pass falling to Djamel Belmadi, who shot wide from outside the box.
The Algerians had named a solid squad of 12 France-based players for the game, but these starts failed to bring their influence to bear on the outcome.
Algeria's coach Abdelhamid Kermali had put his hopes on Nacer Ouaddah to rescue the situation, but he was unavailable to Algeria.
The Algerian FA was told by their French counterparts that Ouaddah had played previously for French junior national teams and was therefore not eligible to play for Algeria.
