Jersey boys spurred on by rivalry

Dave Kennedy

Jersey under-21s manager Dave Kennedy says local rivalry may spur on his inexperienced squad against Guernsey in Saturday's Ambassadeur Bowl match.

Only striker Craig Russell has previously played for the under-21s.

"It's one of our most inexperienced squads," Kennedy told BBC Radio Jersey. "We have lads away at university and Jack Boyle has signed for Southampton.

"But there's always that rivalry there and both sides will be looking forward to Saturday because of it."

And Kennedy says the squad's preparation has been less than ideal.

"It's been almost impossible to get the group of lads together for any time at all as they're all very busy at their clubs," he explained.

But he says he is confident that no matter how inexperienced or under-prepared his side may be, they will give it their all.

The match kicks off at Springfield in Jersey at 1400 GMT on Saturday.
