Guernsey sides thrashed in Jersey

St Paul's celebrate winning the 2008 Wheway Cup

Guernsey sides North and St Martins were both heavily beaten by Jersey sides in the quarter-finals of the Wheway Cup on Saturday.

North were on the end of the biggest defeat as they went down 5-0 at Jersey champions and cup holder St Paul's.

Mark Lucas scored twice for the home side as they hit all five goals in the first half at Clos des Pauvres.

At Le Boulivot St Martins were beaten 4-1 by Jersey side Grouville having been 1-0 up at half-time.

Michael McParland, Peter Hall and Michael Teixeira all scored for Grouville, along with an own goal.

"We had a really good first-half but we conceded an unfortunate own goal and things capitulated form there," Saints coach Colin Fallaize told BBC Guernsey.

"We will definitely learn from losing and that defeat will register very firmly in our plans for next week's training sessions," he added.

In the only match in Guernsey's Senior County League Division One Sylvans moved up from second from bottom to fourth with a 3-1 win at bottom side Rovers.

Rovers have still yet to get a point from five league games this season.
