Who has qualified for Europe?

BBC Sport runs through who has qualified for Europe and how as the 2007-08 season nears its conclusion.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

The top four teams in the Premier League - title winners Manchester United, plus Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool - have qualified for next season's Champions League.

Although Manchester United beat Chelsea in the Champions League final, it will not mean any extra places for English clubs.

UEFA CUP

English clubs are offered three places in the Uefa Cup - for the FA Cup winners, the Carling Cup winners and the fifth-placed team in the Premier League.

Everton finished fifth and so have qualified for the Uefa Cup, as have FA Cup winners Portsmouth and Carling Cup winners Tottenham.

Uefa Fair Play League: In order to be eligible for one of the three places available via the Fair Play League, an association must score an average of over eight. The top association gets a Uefa Cup place, while all other associations with an average of over eight (there are currently eight) are placed into a ballot.

England are guaranteed an extra place after topping the Fair Play League, and it is given to the team placed highest in the Premier League Fair Play League that has not qualified by other means. Manchester City finished sixth, but all the sides above them had already qualified for Europe, so City will join the Uefa Cup at the first qualifying round stage in July.

ADDITIONAL PLACES

Intertoto Cup: England can gain an additional Uefa Cup place by entering a team into and winning the Intertoto Cup. Aston Villa, Blackburn and Manchester City had indicated their willingness to enter - and as sixth-placed Villa finished highest of those clubs, they take England's place.
