Beckham dismisses jet-lag claims

England and LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham Midfielder David Beckham has flown back to the United States insisting the long-haul flights for England duty will not affect his performances.

"Not at all," said the 32-year-old, who could play for Los Angeles Galaxy against Chivas USA on Thursday - 24 hours after facing Germany.

"So far it hasn't affected me," he added. "In the future, who knows?

"I can't say it's not going to but, at the moment, it is not and I'll play for my country as long as I'm wanted."

Beckham took part in the whole of England's friendly against Germany, which his side lost 2-1.

However, he is likely to have to plan some more long-distance trips in September and October, with England facing some crucial Euro 2008 qualifiers.

He is aware that there will be constant scrutiny about his performances because of his travelling but he is determined not to give his doubters a reason to criticise him.

"Every time I step on to the pitch it feels like a trial," revealed the former England captain. "I'm always wanting to prove people wrong all the time.

"People expect that I can't handle the travel, then I have to prove them wrong.

"That's the only way I can do it, by playing well and winning games. We didn't win but I'm happy to be out there for 90 minutes."
