Clubs warned on ref intimidation

Arjen Robben is red-carded during Chelsea's 2-1 win over West Brom Referees chief Keith Hackett has warned clubs they may face fines of up to £250,000 if their players try to intimidate referees.

Chelsea's 2-1 win over West Brom led to referee Mark Halsey being surrounded by players on a couple of occasions.

"We saw it at West Brom and it's not good for the game," Hackett, who is the head of the Professional Game Match Officials Board, told BBC Five Live.

"Clubs can be fined up to £250,000 when players are aggressive to referees."

After West Brom's defeat their manager Bryan Robson accused Chelsea striker Didier Drogba of diving.

And Hackett revealed that, compared to last season, referees have handed out three times as many yellow cards to players for simulation, where they were trying to get opposition players booked, during the current campaign.
