The West Indies makeshift seam bowling attack gave them the upper hand on day two of the first Test against Bangladesh in Kingstown.

Resuming on 42-0 Bangladesh were dismissed for just 238, with 21-year old fast bowler Kemar Roach picking up three wickets.

It could have been much worse for the visitors who at one point were struggling on 172-8.

At stumps West Indies had reached 17-1, with Dale Richards falling for 13.

As on day one, rain was once again a factor, with much of the second session falling foul of the weather.

But Bangladesh had no answer to the pace of Roach who finished with 3-46, and Timo Best who took 2-58.

No Bangladesh batsman managed to reach 40 and it was left to captain Mashrafe Mortaza, who hit a top score of 39, and fellow fast bowler Shahadat Hossain, with a career-best 33, to boost their total.

After taking tea at 149-7, the visitors added 89 runs for the last three wickets, the ninth wicket stand of 35 ending as the second highest of the innings.

Dale Richards began the West Indies reply in fine style, getting off the mark in Test cricket with a pull over midwicket for six.

But he went before the close leaving Omar Phillips and Ryan Austin to resume the innings on day three.
