Rain ruins Lara's Aussie farewell

Lara seeks double-ton record

Lara waves after rain hits Canberra Rain ended what is likely to be Brian Lara's last match in Australia on Friday, handing victory to the Prime Minister's XI.

Lara was on 13 when rain swept across Canberra's Manuka Oval with the visitors on 174-3 in the 32nd over, chasing 317 for victory

Ramnaresh Sarwan made 89, while Dwayne Bravo was 52 not out.

The Prime Minister's XI, who scored 316-4 in 50 overs, won the match on the Duckworth-Lewis method by six runs.

West Australia batsman Adam Voges hit a measured 91 to set up the imposing total.

He put together a 132-run fourth-wicket partnership with Callum Ferguson, who finished 70 not out.

West Indies are not scheduled to tour Australia again until December 2008, when Lara will be 39.

West Indies are not involved in the VB Series next year as they played in last January's one-day tournament.

Lara's appearance in last week Adelaide was the 18th Test he had played in the country, during which he scored 1,428 runs at an average of 43.27.

His overall record against the world champions - 2,856 at 51 - is bettered by his achievements against England, the other team he has faced in a significant proportion of his 121 Tests.
