New Zealand batsman Jesse Ryder has been ruled out of next month's one-day series against England after failing to recover from a hand injury.
The 23-year-old injured his right hand in a drink-related incident and underwent surgery in February but he continues to have difficulty fielding.
He will be replaced by Peter Fulton, who is in England with the Test side.
"It's an opportunity for somebody else. We've just got to be patient," said Black Caps coach John Bracewell.
"It may put this particular series under a bit more pressure by not having one of your best players there, but it increases your depth later on down the track," added Bracewell.
Ryder, who has a history of disciplinary problems, damaged an index finger and thumb breaking a bar window to gain access to its toilet.

The big hitting left-hander was celebrating New Zealand's 3-1 home one-day series triumph against England. A series where he was in outstanding form.
He scored 196 runs in five matches at an average of 49 - including a swashbuckling unbeaten 79 in Hamilton.
New Zealand general manager Lindsay Crocker hoped that Ryder would return for the emerging players tour to Australia in July.
"He will now work towards being fit for that side," said Crocker.
"We will then look at Jesse for the Black Caps tour to Pakistan and hopefully the Champions Trophy later this year."
New Zealand play England in a Twenty20 game on 13 June followed by one-dayers on 15, 18, 21, 25 and 28 June.
