New Zealand have been given official permission to replace the injured Lou Vincent with Hamish Marshall in their World Cup squad out in the Caribbean.
Ross Taylor has still not recovered from his hamstring injury, so Marshall goes straight into Thursday's match against West Indies in Antigua.
The 28-year-old batsman gets his chance after Vincent suffered a broken left wrist during a training session.
Marshall, 28, left for Antigua earlier on a flight earlier on Tuesday.
Vincent was struck by a ball from team-mate Shane Bond during practice on Sunday and when he went to hospital, an X-ray revealed a clean break.
The Kiwis have been beset by injuries during the World Cup, and have already called paceman Chris Martin into their squad for the injured Daryl Tuffey.
Fellow paceman Mark Gillespie is yet to feature in this World Cup because of a shoulder problem caused by a viral infection.
That caused him to miss the group games, but he has finally resumed full training.
New Zealand take two points into the Super Eights, but skipper Stephen Fleming admitted the last few days had been "very dramatic".
He said: "I guess the best thing is the bowlers are still intact. They are the usual suspects.
"Hamish has got a very important 36 hours.
"But knowing he is going to play and coming off some runs at home and just being back in the team will give him a bit of adrenalin, a bit of energy, I'm sure."
