Bangladesh promise Aussie safety

Adam Gilchrist and Tapash Baisya Bangladesh have promised tight security for Australia's cricketers when they arrive later this week for their first tour of the country.

Ricky Ponting's side will fly to Dhaka from South Africa on Thursday for a three-week visit, featuring two Tests and three one-day internationals.

"Unlike other tours, we will have extra security for the Australians.

"No-one will be allowed to have undue access to them," said Bangladesh Cricket Board chief Mahmudur Rahman.

There have been a number of explosions in Bangladesh in the last few months, claiming the lives of 28 people including four suspected suicide bombers.

A banned Islamic militant group, Jamayetul Mujahideen Bangladesh, has been blamed for some of the attacks.

Police fear foreign visitors could be targeted and last month the United States halted all Peace Corps activities in the country.

Meanwhile, there was trouble in Dhaka last week when at least 100 people were injured in clashes between police and opposition party activists.

But Cricket Australia is content for the tour to go ahead following recent discussions between security advisors and the Bangladesh Home Ministry.
