Panesar keen to discover new talent

Monty Panesar

England spinner Monty Panesar is lending his support to a series of youth trials aimed at finding the next generation of top-class cricketers in the UK.

The London County Cricket Club 'talent identification' dates will take place every Sunday from 23 November onwards at MCC's indoor cricket school at Lord's, with triallists given the opportunity to display their all-round potential in front of former international and county professionals.

The most promising 14-17-year-olds will be invited to receive specialist coaching and professional mentoring throughout the winter from top-class coaches.

"'The London County youth trials are a great chance for all young people in the UK to become a cricketer," said Panesar.

"I believe there are lots of individuals who are late-starters or late-developers in cricket and are yet to be discovered by the professional clubs.

"The London County Youth Programme represents a great opportunity for talented and undiscovered cricketers to excel"

"The trials are an opportunity for raw talent to be developed. To help strengthen the future talent pool in order for England to become the best team in the world, we need people from all social and cultural backgrounds to play their part."

The scheme, originally founded by WG Grace and re-formed by former Leicestershire and Somerset wicketkeeper-batsman Neil Burns, is also backed by the likes of Indian spinner Anil Kumble and former England paceman Devon Malcolm.
