England suffer double injury blow

Andrew Flintoff and Stuart Broad

England have brought bowlers Sajid Mahmood and Amjad Khan into their squad for the remaining two one-day internationals against India.

The pair have been called up as cover after Andrew Flintoff and Stuart Broad both picked up injuries in the fifth one-day international on Wednesday.

Flintoff is struggling with an ankle problem, but it is not thought to be related to his previous injuries.

Broad suffered a hamstring strain on Wednesday in Cuttack.

The Nottinghamshire seamer was forced to leave the field of play before he completed his ninth over during the six-wicket defeat, and is believed to be more of a doubt than Flintoff for Saturday's penultimate ODI.

Flintoff fell for a third-ball duck on Wednesday, but bowled nine overs during India's innings.

England were keen to emphasise that Flintoff's injury was not the same part of the ankle as he has had four operations on in recent years.

Lancashire bowler Mahmood, who has not featured for England since the 2007 World Cup, and uncapped Kent seamer Khan are both in England's Performance Programme Squad based in Bangalore.

England captain Kevin Pietersen also hurt his right side during Wednesday's game, but he insisted he would be fit to play in the sixth ODI.

"Injuries are a big concern because I'm suffering, Freddie is suffering and Broady is suffering but I'll be fine and I'll play," said Pietersen.
