England have had to drop plans to use Mushtaq Ahmed as a coach with their Performance Programme squad in India because of work permit problems.
The England and Wales Cricket Board recruited the 38-year-old former Pakistan Test player to help with the development of their spin bowlers.
He was due to travel to India with the squad, which includes Monty Panesar.
The decision to leave him behind is not expected to affect his ECB deal, which requires him to coach 100 days a year.
Mushtaq, who played 52 Tests and 144 one-day internationals for Pakistan, was a hugely successful overseas player for Sussex in the final years of his career.

He finally retired last summer after six years at Hove and the ECB moved to draw on his expertise, and he will work with the senior international side as well as younger spinners picked out as future England players.
The board, meanwhile, has also moved to reassure the International Cricket Council over concerns about Mushtaq's part in an inquiry into alleged match-fixing eight years ago and his more recent involvement in the unsanctioned Indian Cricket League.
A plan to measure and monitor his performance as a coach is to be submitted to the game's world governing body.
And the ECB has stated that he will come under the same terms of reference as any other member of the management staff - who are all required to abide by the ICC's Code of Conduct.
