Pietersen praises 'super' India

Kevin Pietersen had no complaints about England's defeat by India in the first one-day international but says his team will bounce back in Indore on Monday.

The tourists were thrashed by 158 runs in Rajkot after England were bowled out for 229 in response to India's 387-5.

"They played super cricket, you've got to say well done," said the captain.

"You've got to go over what you've done not so well and regroup. There are six games left and we want to bring some real good cricket to Indore."

Pietersen had nothing but praise for India batsman Yuvraj Singh, who smashed an unbeaten 138 off 78 balls including 16 fours and six maximums.

The 26-year-old's exhilarating century was the quickest by anyone in ODIs against England and the second-fastest by an Indian.

"If you stand and watch an innings like Yuvraj played and Sehwag you have just got to take your hat off to the way they played," said Pietersen.

"It's an amazing batting pitch. You just need to touch it and it goes for four and a bit harder and it goes for six.

"I've had a couple of bad months with not being in the Test side but I am coming back to my best and to hit a knock like that was a good effort"

"We'll sit down and see where we made a few mistakes. But if a bloke plays like that you're behind the game straight away. It was a bit of a licence to go out and enjoy yourself."

England coach Peter Moores admitted his side had been completely outclassed by their hosts.

"We were thoroughly outplayed but we need to come back stronger," he said. "I thought we played OK today but 387 is a very big score.

"We lost wickets throughout and we need to learn how to build a platform. We need to look at that."

Mahendra Dhoni's side take a richly deserved 1-0 lead to Indore and, with six matches remaining in the series, will be confident of adding to their advantage.

India lost the toss but batted with confidence and flair before proving there was also life in the pitch for the bowling team.

"It was critical to start on a good note," said Dhoni. "We lost the toss but bowled brilliantly and knew the [England] batsmen had to take risks. We bowled in the right areas.

606: DEBATE
"I have just tried to put an England team together for the second ODI and whichever team I put down on paper the balance just isn't there"
OBR

"On a day like this I don't think the opposition could do much [about Yuvraj]. He was batting at his best. Everybody chipped in, but Yuvraj stood out.

"I saw him smile and that's a good thing. I'm sure he'll be continuing the good work in the series."

Yuvraj was unsurprisingly named man of the match for what he felt was one of the finest innings of his career.

"I've had a couple of bad months with not being in the Test side," said the 26-year-old. "But I am coming back to my best and to hit a knock like that was a good effort.

"It was one of my best innings in one-day cricket. We were thinking 350 would be a good score but we got more than that so we were happy."
