Flintoff vows to regain top form

Andrew Flintoff England's Andrew Flintoff is determined to recapture the form that made him the leading all-rounder in world cricket.

The burly Lancastrian took just 11 wickets and averaged 28 with the bat in the 2006-7 Ashes, then scored only 92 runs in seven innings at the World Cup.

"Sometimes you might need a rest but at this moment I want to get back to where I want to be in the game," he insisted.

"I'm 29 and I feel my best years are in front of me but I'm going to have to work hard to prove that."

Flintoff, who made his international debut in 1998, was the lynchpin of England's Ashes triumph in 2005, scoring three half-centuries with an average of 40 and claiming 24 wickets.

But he made the headlines more for his off the field activities in the Caribbean.

Late night excesses that led to a much publicised incident with a pedalo saw Flintoff relieved of the England vice-captaincy.

"I'm keen to show that I'm a cricketer and committed to the game," he said. "That's something we're going to see over the next few weeks.

"I've had a little holiday, after the World Cup I stayed on in Barbados with the family and it gave me a chance to recap on the last 18 months.

"With my benefit, the Ashes and the World Cup it's been a hectic time but now what I'm doing is getting back to cricket.

"That's what I do best and what I enjoy doing, I'm not taking on anything else from outside the game."
