Joyce upbeat over ankle recovery

Ed Joyce England batsman Ed Joyce hopes to be back in action in less than six weeks after suffering an ankle injury.

Joyce fell awakwardly in the outfield during last week's Twenty20 match against Sri Lanka at The Rose Bowl.

"I had a scan and apparently I've done some ligament damage to the ankle, so everything's not OK, but it's better than I thought it would be at the time.

"You've got to take these things on the chin and come back stronger," Joyce told BBC Test Match Special.

"I see the specialist tomorrow (Wednesday) and he'll actually get to see the ankle then. He only saw the scans on Monday.

"It's very bruised, but there's not a lot swelling. He guessed at two to six weeks, in other words he didn't really know at that stage.

"The way it feels now, it feels like I can nearly put all my weight on it. I can't turn or anything but hopefully it's just two to four weeks and I'll be back," he said.

Joyce revealed the injury occurred as he was running across the outfield, not when he landed after attempting to take a catch.

"The catch was a bit of an afterthought really. I made a last-ditch lunge at it and the ball ended up hitting me on my little finger, and I've got the cut to show for it. "It was a good excuse for dropping the catch anyway," he said.
