Worcs confirm Kidderminster move

New Road flood

Worcestershire will play their final two home games of the season at Kidderminster after severe flooding at New Road.

The games, both against Middlesex in the Pro40 League and County Championship, will be batsman Graeme Hick's last for the county.

Chief executive Mark Newton told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "It's a pity he won't end his career at New Road."

"The irony is that Graeme began his cricket in England at Kidderminster."

Worcestershire signed a deal with Kidderminster to use their facilities if there was a recurrence of the 2007 flooding.

"We are asking people bring their own tables and chairs and picnics," said Newton.

"It makes for a great atmosphere at Chester Road."

Newton also rejected calls for the club to permanently move from New Road.

"We can't move, the ground is not worth anything," he said.

"What we can do is carry on with our plans and get everything out of the flood so that we can operate throughout the year."

Worcestershire are not yet guaranteed promotion in the Championship, though they hold a 16-point lead over Warwickshire and a 29-point lead over third-placed Northants.

All three have just two matches remaining in all, while Essex, who are currently in fifth place, are 42 points behind but have a game in hand.
